What Isaiah 61:3 Teaches us about Depression

The Garment of Praise for the Spirit of Heaviness 💜
Hello dear friend,
This week’s episode is a bit of a heavy one — we’re talking about depression.
Before we go further, I want to pause here with a gentle trigger warning. In this episode, I share my own story of walking through depression. My prayer is that it ministers hope and freedom to you, but if you’re not in the space to hear it right now, please save it for later and ask the Lord to guide you on when to return.
Here’s the truth: depression is real, and it’s devastating. I’ve walked through it myself, and I know the way it drains life from your soul. But I’ve also discovered something the Bible reveals: depression isn’t just a mental or emotional struggle. Scripture calls it “the spirit of heaviness” (Isaiah 61:3). And God has already given us the remedy: the garment of praise.
In this episode, I open up about my personal experience, what God showed me in His Word, and how we can begin to walk in freedom from the heaviness of depression.
Here are a few takeaways from the episode:
💗 Depression is not your identity: it’s a weapon of the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy.
💗 Isaiah 61:3 shows us the spiritual root of depression: the spirit of heaviness.
💗 God’s answer is the garment of praise: choosing to fix our eyes on Him in worship even when it feels impossible.
💗 Praise and worship aren’t just about singing: they’re weapons of spiritual warfare that fill us with His light.
💗 You can overcome negative thought patterns: by refuting lies with the truth of God’s Word.

Before you go…
Friend, I know depression can feel like it has the final word. But it doesn’t. I’ve seen firsthand that God is faithful to heal, restore, and breathe life back into weary souls.
If He could pull me out when I was far from Him, how much more can He do for you, His beloved daughter? Take the first step. Let Him into your pain. He will show up for you. 💖
